Residents of The Magnolia Labs Empty Residents of The Magnolia Labs

Professor Magnolia: Two and a half decades ago, Magnolia was the fighting type champion of the region. During her travels, and her time as Champion meeting challengers, she became fascinated by Pokemon behaviour and personality, and how they demonstrate it and how they interact with humans. After she was defeated as a champion, she took the chance to change focus to a more academic focus. She initially started with lots of fieldwork, making impressive progress in the field of wild Pokemon behaviour and activity, most notably the first full academic study of Mazian Gyrados behaviour in their mountaintop lake homes. When the airfield closed, she took the chance to buy the hanger and the field, converting them into a haven for Pokemon with injuries and personality problems that make it difficult for them to survive. The work of the lab is spilt between therapy for the Pokemon who live there (and finding out how to properly care for them), and continuing her work on Pokemon behaviour. The Professor's work is spilt between the two fields, meaning she is usually rushed off her feet and relies heavily on her aides and her loyal fighting type team.

Physically, Magnolia is a late middle aged woman with greying black hair who usually wears her work clothes, even when in the office. Her lab coat she usually wears is specially reinforced to withstand Pokemon clawing, embering and headbutting her. She still keeps herself in shape, although her days of sparring with her Machamp are over.

Her Team:

Champ (Machamp, lvl 87) Magnolia's first Pokemon partner, Champ has been in this game for a long time and has done and seen most things. During her younger days she was a keen, almost too keen battler, constantly pushing to find new opponents. Her most infamous technique was her Tri Fists formation, where she activated Fire, Ice and Thunder punches simultaneously in a flurry of elemental blows.

Nowadays, after her time spent as the Champion's key pokemon and her subsequent defeat, she's calmed down a lot. Both she and Magnolia are getting old, and she is now far happier helping around the lab looking after the pokemon there. She took part in Magnolia's academic studies when she switched careers, and actually has a fairly impressive body of papers that she has worked on. As she developed her skills, she decided to start dressing as a human since she enjoyed borrowing Magnolia's lab coat, and as she's aged her eyesight has dropped so she does need glasses. Her fashion sense can be described as middle aged office lady chic. She is very interested in fabric technology as well, due to needing threads that can withstand the wear and tear of being worn by a Machamp. Many of the fighting types, particularly the Mankeys, at the lab have decided she is the one to beat in the lab hierarchy.

Residents of The Magnolia Labs Empty Pokemon at the lab

The Mankey Tribe: The Mankey tribe is being cared for here while their leading Primeape is treated for injuries it received when an Eelektross moved into their territory in the swamp. A couple of them are close to evolving themselves, making them a handful to care for. Mankey tribes have strong hierarchies, and Mankeys of a lower ranking have to offer food to higher ranking. As Magnolia feeds all of them, the Mankeys have decided she is obviously at the bottom of the ladder, a fact she finds rather amusing. Champ, however, has been noted as the dominant fighting type in the area, and several of the stronger Mankeys try to challenge her. Champ regards them as kind of being like children, and has gotten a strong attachment to the group.

Ernie the Graveler: Ernie came to the lab as a Geodude due to his problems sleeping. They found that rocking him to sleep works, which was fine as a Geodude but more difficult as a Graveler. Champ now provides this by using her as a weight for her work outs; the lifting and dropping lulls him to sleep, particularly as for a Machamp a 100kg weight is fairly low, so she does a lot of reps.

The Solrocks and Lunatones: This group of Rock/Psychic pokemon are kept here to study their behaviour, since these Pokemon are highly unusual and alien in behaviour. They are commonly found either floating near the skylight, staring at the sky, or else sleeping under the sands of the desert area; the Solrocks sleep during the night and the Lunatones during the day. Magnolia says she can understand them a bit, and thinks they are waiting for something. What it is, they're not sure.
